What Time Is It? It’s Jackie Time….

I wrote this blog/article April 15th, 2007. The irony is that not much has changed since I sat down and penned this challenge. Yesterday, was a great day for baseball. A time for fun & a time for unity amongst all Americans. The Yankees won against the Angels but honestly, win or lose the entire league was a winner. So thanks for reading and pass this along. We all can do so much better. Thank God for the Jackie Robinson’s of the world otherwise many of us would be lost in the mire of our own minute bs.

Anyone who knows me personallly knows my love for the game of Baseball.

I don’t even remember how it came about. Actually, I do but it is has no bearing on this blog.

Bottom line, I use to sneak into the stadium with friends regularly. They knew we didn’t pay nor had the resources to pay so the security people and others would just let us go. I wonder had we snuck in a baseball game in the 40’s would we have gotten away with it? Would we have been beaten, verbally assaulted, and locked up in jail? Just to name a few options that were implemented in those times which are not so far away.

Today is Jackie Robinson’s day. His number 42 jersey has been forever retired in baseball 15 years ago.

This is how much this human being meant to a people, to a country….

Today with a gloomy stormy forecast in the East and elsewhere resembles the American society we currently live in. Much room for progress and righting wrongs yet an inept nature and arrogance within the American psyche, soul, and spirit.

Now, Jackie was not the best baseball player in the Negro Leagues(But he was damn near the best), there were Josh Gibsons, Satchel Paiges, to name a few yet Jackie was the right African American player to finally break a color barrier that should not have ever existed.

I implore everyone to learn more because the truth is what will move us forward as humans. Stop living in immoral tradition or just plain ole tradition because someone passed this down or that down. Not everything anyone passes down is correct or truthful.

Please enjoy and learn from these quotes and this video.

Let’s excel to be excellent and reverent humans and not just good people. Being a good person is achieving far less than possible. That’s why, everyday,  I work towards excellence in all I do daily.

Love and miss you, Jackie
