#TRUTHFUL TUESDAY: A POVERTY MIND

A poverty mind equals a poverty consciousness.

Think about it those who are poverty-stricken think in terms of poverty, fear poverty, talk poverty, and receive poverty in abundance. If you don’t believe what I am saying just read your timelines, listen to the sounds of hip hop, look at the reality tv shows, etc. Folks brag about being on the system like it is a rite of passage. Folks demean one another as if it is the norm of human treatment. Folks talk about their lives as if they have no factor or choice in the deal. Yes, a poverty mind is shown in all they do. Shoot, I have dated such and they didn’t even realize that they were slaves by choice. 

When you embrace a poverty mind what you are saying you are embracing the lowest common denominator of self. You are saying there is nothing that I will ever be best at. There is nothing I have to offer. I will never change. I will keep it 100 when in fact what you’re really saying I am afraid to take chances on myself, I don’t believe in myself, and I deserve the position in life that I am in. Yes, you are embracing the least of what you have to offer thinking this is normal. This is not normal. It shows that you have low or no self-esteem. A poverty mind will only land you in a world of hurt, pain, struggle, lies, and an unfulfilled life. You don’t believe me…check out all the studies and immense info on the subject that has been compiled for centuries. 

You will only rise and achieve to the level of your own self-concept. Self-concept will show in the choices and the quality of life you live. 

I see so many females/males, especially of color, who’s self-concept is below low. When will you finally take the time to build self? When will you finally stop talking about what you will do and do what you should do for self? When will the laziness of your mind no longer be accepted as the norm? Oh, people get ready…..Know that what the world could be missing is your contribution. So, step right up and embrace yourself and remove the poverty mind, now!

In the above video by Bob Marley says Don’t worry bout a thing cause every little thing’s gonna be alright. Think about if we possess such a mentality constantly what things we all can accomplish? 

Folks talk about me but IDC, seriously I don’t………… but I do wonder at times what makes them focus so much on me? The more I think about it it comes down to my attitude about self, life and just how I flow. There are many facets to the subject of attitude. One involves optimism. I have dreams, accomplish goals, etc. and so many of us are not doing a thing but going through the motions of life everyday. Sometimes, this makes us focus on others in ways we ought not. 

Montel Williams once said, that “we all hope for the best, but an optimist expects to get it.” 

The truth is I am not always optimistic but I try to be. When it comes to most things in my life I absolutely expect them to happen and without a doubt they often times do. So follow the path your supposed to follow and get it in. 

Optimism takes action—the pessimist will always take a seat to watch the optimist do what they do. 

All I know is I hear the birds every morning reminding me to be optimistic. So start today living with a sense of optimism and watch yourselves move mountains!

Pride goes before destruction……

I hear so many females talk about what they won’t do………

due to pride. Sometimes, completely and utterly useless pride. 

Pride is a great thing because I possess a ton of it but even with

all the pride in the universe I am aware there are things I say I would not do that I do.

….esp. when it pertains to love. As Bobby Caldwell said, “what you won’t do….you do for love….you’ve tried everything but you won’t give up.” 

You know in my world there could be an “only you” because there is always one person who would make me do for love what I would not do…………………………..

but sometimes it is the pride & the blindness that many females possess that just won’t allow that “only you” to be in my life. Sometimes, I wonder if anyone could feel for me the way that Bobby described as feeling for this woman?? Would I make them do what they would not do? Would they be willing to forego their pride…..to just let me know that they could be that “only you.” 

Yep, what you won’t do……….I guess someone else will. 

Don’t get caught slippin’ because there is always another who is comin’ n a hummin’ atcha boy because Pride which creates blindness always goes before destruction. HA!

Slumps are a part of human nature. We all go through them. Some of us go through financial slumps, some dating, some health wise, ,some otherwise but slumps we all experience. 

For me the most frustrating thing about experiencing a slump is that the more I try to get out from under that bitch the more I seem to fall into. It is truly a struggle but with the right amount of time and energy I find my way back. 

To some that know me and are part of some of my longest running slumps; they advise me to relax and flow and sometimes I do but……. sometimes I just can’t help but push. I am someone who deals with things head-on so it’s hard to just sit back and do nada. 

In either case, I am going to drop some jewels on how to get out of a slump. Hope it helps someone…shoot I’m hoping it will help me in terms of slump I am currently dealing with in terms of dating. My life is still great but I would be lying otherwise if I said I wasn’t experiencing a slump of sorts.

Life has a way of bringing to you all you desire and taking away all you desire…you just have to be open to its possibilities. Folks do party way too much these days but sometimes you have to crack a bottle open and enjoy!

Random: I often wonder why folks say things that they know are not true when it is truly is not necessary. Or worse they say nothing as if lying by omission is better. It’s not. 

It makes me think about a song by No Doubt “Don’t Speak”. Gwen speaks to her lover or whoever saying Don’t speak, I hear what you ‘re saying…..and she begs them to not tell her cause’ it hurts. 

It seems hurt and pain are the norm when love and joy should be so…..

Randomism regarding sex and its importance in relationships:

Someone on my timeline asked if sex was important to a relationship? I’ll post below some of the responses but really folks better wake up. We, Americans, are regressing in understanding that the human bond requires intimate relations no matter whether you are str8, gay, bi etc. Anyone who thinks they will retain any type of healthy relationship through being friends yet require that person to remain faithful is fooling their damn selves. Yep, I said it. 

This was my response in response to many women posting:

I’m starting to understand why so many women are not getting good relationships and are alone because you may not be aware of the ramifications of stating that sex is not important at all……..

25% of all men are unstable,

25% of all men can’t be faithful

30% of them don’t mean what they say

And 10% of them in maybe 20 is gay

That leaves you a 10% chance of ever finding your mate

That means you better pay attention to these words that I say

I’m gonna teach you how expose the 90%

and show you what to do to keep the other 10.

Yep, dating is a pain no matter whether you are dating same sex, hetero, or otherwise. Yep, there is otherwise dating that’s another blog though…lol           Dating should be fun and for some it is fun but for many it is an exercise in futility. I admit that as someone who has spent years of building myself I felt entitled to have it easy to find that proverbial one. Have I found that one?

I wrote this blog/article April 15th, 2007. The irony is that not much has changed since I sat down and penned this challenge. Yesterday, was a great day for baseball. A time for fun & a time for unity amongst all Americans. The Yankees won against the Angels but honestly, win or lose the entire league was a winner. So thanks for reading and pass this along. We all can do so much better. Thank God for the Jackie Robinson’s of the world otherwise many of us would be lost in the mire of our own minute bs.

Anyone who knows me personallly knows my love for the game of Baseball.

I don’t even remember how it came about. Actually, I do but it is has no bearing on this blog.

Bottom line, I use to sneak into the stadium with friends regularly. They knew we didn’t pay nor had the resources to pay so the security people and others would just let us go. I wonder had we snuck in a baseball game in the 40’s would we have gotten away with it? Would we have been beaten, verbally assaulted, and locked up in jail? Just to name a few options that were implemented in those times which are not so far away.

Have you ever driven your car with the parking brake on? At some point that has happened to us all. Remember the times when you arrived at your destination and reached down or stepped on the parking brake to apply it, only to find that it had been on the entire time you were driving. Without realizing it we all moved from point to point with the brakes partly set. The horsepower was there, but the car’s vast potential was blocked and restricted. Think about how this scenario pertains to your life? I know it does to mine. 

Experiences like this should teach us lessons about ourselves. It makes me think about how I view myself? Do I have my mental brakes on? We should all take a moment to evaluate whether we have our mental brakes on. If so, release your brakes & avoid all unnecessary stops. By releasing those mental brakes we will reach our goals much sooner. This has been a #DBXXL1 -ISM MOMENT. HAVE A GOOD SATURDAY.

Being busy and kind of shifting focus in life has determined the amount of time I have to post and drop jewels. So I hope this jewel hits you to make positive change.

Simply put too many us are not doing more for our lives and we are not even willing to admit such.  

#2012 is the time of the follower. Don’t get me wrong being a follower is not a new ideology or religion but there are less folks who really stand on their own ground and go for their own goals & dreams. As a musician, I see this reflected in the mediocrity of much of what is representing the music business these days. Everything is linked whether we realize it or not. 

#2012 it seems the majority are involved in escapism. Worshipping the masses or even worse the tv-role-models’ hopes and dreams instead of their own. I would be willing to bet many of us have not even taken enough time to truly figure out our own hopes and dreams. Many haven’t taken the time in my assessment because their decision picker is faulty so they have so many messes they have gotten themselves into that they don’t know how to get out of this vicious cycle let alone have enough time to focus on moving themselves into the affirmative. Can I say it again, many of us do not have good judgment skills & what’s worse we are too arrogant and ignorant in many cases to admit such. 

Can I get an AMEN? ….It is Sunday after-all…lol.

Today is a day that many in America celebrate by being off from school or work to honor all the past Presidents as well as, the current one for being the head CEO, the Head of this nation. Now we all know many if not most people are just relaxing or in some cases may not even know why they are off today. Today’s America is…well that’s another story for another time. 

I didn’t plan on posting anything today but after a bit of thought and research I found something unique to discuss: “should we honor past Presidents who were slave owners? Ok, I already know what proponents will say that, “I am trying to be politically correct?” Millions of Caucasian, as well as, my race or cultural group will say, “it’s time to get over slavery but….really has this nation done so?“ I think not. So they would be wrong in such assumptions. As life changes so should we. We exclaim at the highest that we are a nation of progression yet in many cases we are regressing just with a bit more freedom to be our weakest and most lost selves. 

That’s the problem with folk they don’t know what they want nor what they want to be so they go through life acting and faking!!!

I feel like dropping another jewel today. 

Today’s folks have invested all their energy into superficial interactions.

Superficial attachments. Superficial everything.

In my travels I must admit in the past I have probably held very little leeway for folks to mess up, to not look a certain way, etc. but that was when I was a kid or a younger adult…. Now that I am grown up I realize things must  have a depth that you can’t achieve just through surface interactions. Don’t get me wrong I like a pretty face like the next one does but I have found that factor alone can not provide the necessary basis for good relationships. 

ll drop a jewel of motivation…

Yesterday, witnessing the ascension and victory of my beloved NY Giants made me think about how everyone was telling them that there was no way, no how, etc. that they would achieve this. They had an up and down year to say the least some due to injury some due to just a lack of focus but in the end once they truly believed they knew they could not be stopped and that’s why they won. They just never gave up. 

In life it gives you reasons or results and many folks cling to the reasons in life to allow themselves to be held back. But not me. Nothing or no one can stop me….

I’ll sing it: NO ONE, NO ONEEEEEEE CAN GET IN THE WAY OF WHAT I’M FEELING…in my Alicia Keys voice…lol

But on the real no way no how. I believe and whether it’s revealed today or tomorrow to the world it has always been revealed within me from the jump.
